Last year SFTec was asked to join in a large EU project preparation called ECOSLAG. Project focuses on researching and testing the utilization of waste heats of slags from the metallurgic industry. The kick-off meeting of the project was held last week in Duisburg, Germany. The coordinator of the project is FEhS which is a research organization that promotes and supports the use of slags and residues of iron and steelmaking. Our main cooperation partner in the project is Swerea MEFOS from Sweden. Other organizations joining the project are representatives of steel industry and research from Germany, Italy and Spain.
Our role in the project is to develop and test our heat recovery technology RecHeat with our drying technology ModHeat. With RecHeat, we can recover heat energy that is otherwise wasted during cooling of the slag and use that in the drying process. Using waste heats for drying materials, production facilities can save millions of euros per year in material and waste costs.
